FAQ - Child ID Program

General Questions
Top of Page

Can I order additional CD's or ID Cards after the event?
Yes but since our program is designed so it can't create a database when processing your child's ID, we will need the original DIGIKIDS® CD to make new ID cards or duplicate CD's. Please Contact Us or your local DIGIKIDS® Representative for more information.
Back to General Questions Index

Can I make copies of the information on the CD to leave with others?
Yes. Choose 'Create Floppy' from the menu, insert a floppy into your floppy drive and the program automatically creates a Distribution Floppy with the poster and flyer, both high-resolution photos, identifying and medical information. Once you create the floppy, it will work in any computer and it can be given to police or others in an emergency.
Back to General Questions Index

Will you send a reminder notice when an update is due?
Our program cannot create a database or store any personal information about you or your child, so there is no way for us to keep track of the ID dates or contact you. There is an 'Update Due' date on the bottom of the Photo ID Card you can use as a guide, and we usually return to schools and preschools on a regular schedule. Find a local DIGIKIDS® ID Event

Will the CD work with a Macintosh (MAC) Computer?
The Quick Response™ Software is designed to work on Windows® computers (PC's) and won't work properly on a Macintosh. However, your child's photos and identifying information that are sent with emergency email or saved to a Distribution Floppy are universal and will work in any computer. A note for MAC computer users: It is much easier to find a Windows® PC when you are away from home to use in an emergency. All police departments and other law enforcement agencies (as far as we know) use Windows® PC's.

In a missing child emergency, can I just hand the DIGIKIDS® CD to police?
Yes. The CD includes complete instructions for law enforcement to use quickly in an emergency. Ask the police to use the CD to make a Distribution Floppy so you can have the DIGIKIDS® CD back. That way they will have everything they need, and you will have the CD to help you report to the NCMEC (see below) as well as make posters and flyers. View Flowchart

Will the CD report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC)?
Yes. The Quick Response™ Software guides you step-by-step through the entire process. We automatically complete the NCMEC forms (including any last minute information you've added about your child and events surrounding the missing child emergency), attach the necessary files including both high resolution photos, identifying and medical information and then send an emergency email formatted for use by the NCMEC. The entire process should take less than five-minutes. View Flowchart
Back to General Questions Index

Will your program report my missing child to the AMBER Alert System?
Yes. If the AMBER Alert program in your area is able to take digital files attached to an email message, (like most TV and radio stations) you or the police can use the CD to automatically send everything they need to broadcast physical descriptions and high resolution photos of your missing child including both the poster and flyer, and any last minute information you've added about your child and events surrounding the actual emergency. Back to General Questions Index

Can I add last minute information about my child in a missing child emergency?
Yes. Police will need a detailed description of what your child was wearing including the location your child was last seen and any other special information about the missing child emergency before they can begin a search for your child. With our Quick Response™ Software you can easily add any last minute information to send with emergency email and include with the Distribution Floppy. The updated information is automatically added to the posters and flyers.

Will I damage the DIGIKIDS® CD by keeping it with me?
Although it is possible to damage the CD, the DIGIKIDS® ID Kit includes a patented two-compartment Safety-Sleeve® that allows you to carry the DIGIKIDS® CD with you at all times without damage from sticking or scratching.

Using the Quick Response™ Software
Top of Page

How do I install the program?
There is no installation necessary - the easy-to-use Quick Response™ Software runs right from the CD! Once you insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive, the program will start automatically in about 5 seconds. The small CD fits into a standard CD-ROM tray, its edges resting on the inner, recessed area. On laptops, simply snap it over the center hub.

Can I run the program without the CD in the CD-ROM drive?
Since we don't install the Quick Response™ Software on your computer, the CD must be in the drive for the program to work. If you've updated any information and saved it to your hard drive, the CD then works with your saved data and the latest information is what will be displayed, sent with emergency email, added to the NCMEC forms, posters, flyers and the Distribution Floppy. Can I save updated information for more than one child?
Yes. You need to insert the DIGIKIDS® CD for each child before saving. The updates are saved in separate folders.

I don't have an email program on my computer, will the email program still work?
Yes. Our program has its own email program built in. All you need is a computer with access to the Internet.

Do I need to attach any files to emergency email?
The program automatically attaches the most current information files, including both photos, the poster and flyer, all identifying information and the NCMEC forms if you've completed those prior to sending. All you need to do is type in the email address or addresses where you want the emergency email to be sent.

Sometimes my regular email is rejected when I try and send attachments. How can I make sure my missing child emergency email goes through?
We've developed a special SMTP eMail Program™ that routes your email and attachments through a dedicated network so that it is not mistaken for SPAM, or a computer virus and rejected. With the easy-to-use DIGIKIDS® Quick Response™ Software you can send email no matter where you are or what network or PC you are using.

How does the distribution floppy work?
You can quickly make a Distribution Floppy to leave with day care providers, give to others or hand to police in an emergency. You can also take the floppy to quick print centers to print professional flyers and posters. To make a distribution floppy, insert a blank floppy and click the icon at the top of any page. The program will automatically copy the most current information files, including photos, the poster and flyer, all identifying information and the NCMEC forms.

Can I remove any saved or updated data from the computer's hard drive?
Yes. Navigate to the Edit Information Page and choose 'Remove Data'. The program will automatically remove any data that you've saved to the computer's hard drive. The information and photos on the DIGIKIDS® CD will not be changed. This is an especially useful feature if you've used a public computer to report your child missing, and want to remove all of the data so that no one has access to it.

How do I create a poster or flyer?
Posters and flyers are created automatically with the photos and information on the CD including any updated or added information that you've entered and saved. From the Emergency page, simply click on Poster or Flyer for the one you want.
Back to Using the Quick Response™ Software Index

Can I update the photos and information myself?
Yes. The DIGIKIDS® CD includes instructions for updating and saving your child’s photos and identifying information to a home computer while retaining use of the program’s e-mail, printing and distribution capabilities. Please note that this does not update the CD itself, and is offered as a convenience for parents who move to an area where a DIGIKIDS® representative is unavailable, and for those who can’t participate in future DIGIKIDS® Events.

Troubleshooting & Known Issues

CD doesn't start automatically when inserted into CD-ROM drive.
The small CD fits into a standard CD-ROM tray, its edges resting on the inner, recessed area. On laptops, snap it over the center hub. If the program doesn't start automatically within about 5 seconds, check to see that you have the CD loaded in the CD-ROM drive properly. To start the program manually, navigate to your CD-ROM drive and double-click the CD icon. If you have auto run disabled on your computer, when you click on the CD icon it will open a folder with a number of files. Click on Autorun.hta to start the program.

Poster or flyer prints on two pages.
The poster and flyer are both formatted to print on standard letter size paper (8-1/2 X 11) with the margins set to .5 inch. Most printers default to these settings. To check yours, go to Page Setup and make sure the side and top margins are set to .5 before printing. If you would like to print larger posters or flyers than you can make from your home computer, take the CD (or make a Distribution Floppy) to any quick print center such as FedEx Kinko's.

Microsoft download warning when trying to view the NCMEC release forms.
According to where the security settings for your Internet Browser are set, or which version browser you are using, you may get a warning before viewing the NCMEC forms similar to a download warning you see when downloading files from the Internet. If you get the warning, choose 'Open' or 'OK' and the forms will display normally. NOTE: The forms are completed automatically by the program, and you only need to display the forms if you want to print or review them prior to sending to the NCMEC.
